In the great Gatsby novel, Mr. George Wilson is a representative of people who loss their individual identity. As a man, he didn't have all the character that a man had at that time. Also in the family he also seems to be the weak one. In Chapter 7 of the novel , the author writes “ He was his wife's man and not his own.” (7) From this we can see that the American dream does not belong to Wilson, because he is not George Wilson, he is Myrtle's husband. So he can never achieve the American dream because he does not have the personal identity. George Wilson represented the lower class in the American society at that time. They lacked their personal identity. They don't know who they are and what success means., they only worked for survival.
